Sat down with “The Hills” star Lauren Conrad on Tuesday to chat about her new clothing line, which debuts Sept. 15 online at shoplaurenconrad.com.
I’ll admit, I was dubious. “Oh great, another celebrity coming out with another clothing collection, whoopity-doo.” Barring stars like Gwen Stefani, it would be fair to say that most celeb fashion lines just don’t pass muster - cough-Paris Hilton/Beyonce/Jessica Simpson-cough. So it was surprising to see that Conrad’s clothing wasn’t cheesy at all. There’s a few pieces I’d snag for myself and for some girlfriends, too.
The offerings are simple and very wearable, nothing I haven’t seen already somewhere else (along the lines of Ella Moss/Splendid/Rachel Pally) but still. Everything in the collection is what I would picture Conrad wearing herself: Casual, beachy-comfortable jersey dresses and flowy tops that are girly and cute. Particularly darling are some gauzy shifts, a bubble minidress in a lightweight swiss-dot fabric in a pretty teal shade and an adorable high-waisted dove gray skirt with a white tube top. The fabrics — slinky jerseys and woven cottons — were soft to the touch and in pretty hues of navy, teal, nutmeg brown and peach.
Some things you might be wondering: Yes, she’s very pretty in person, with a slim figure, nice complexion and piercing eyes. What’s she like? Beats me. Most celebs are always guarded around media and understandably so. I’ll say she was quiet but not meek, more like quietly accessing everything around her and nice but not overly so. In other words, not very different from her persona on TV at all.
Check the paper next Wednesday for the full story, and in the meantime, I leave you with a peek at some of the clothes:
The ‘Victoria’ dress, $124
The ‘London’ top, $96
